Carsonite was founded in 1975 by a team of
engineers developing special fiber-reinforced materials for
the U.S. space program. Their objective: put advanced composite
technology to work for innovative, safety-oriented products for
highway, utility, and recreational uses — technology patented and
registered under the brand name "Carsonite."
It's a tradition we proudly uphold. Over the years we've added many new products,
originated and patented many new technologies, and continued to strive
to make the highways, the work place, and recreational areas safer.
Having introduced the first flexible highway delineation
post more than two decades ago, Carsonite continues to lead the way
in such highway and work-zone safety
products as driveable and surface-mounted roadway delineators,
mileposts, and hazard markers, all capable of sustaining repeated
highway-speed impacts and coming back for more, rumble
strips, speed bumps, and car stops, plus accessories including
snowpoles, street signs, decals, and reflective sheeting.
Our award-winning AcoustaShield™ Sound Barrier System not only
helps curb noise pollution but helps remove scrap tires from the waste stream. The system features
tongue-and-groove boards of glass-reinforced polymer composite, filled
with pulverized tire scrap. A mile of Carsonite Sound Barrier 10
feet high, consumes a stunning 211,000 pounds of tire scrap, ridding
the environment of nearly 21,000 discarded tires.
More than 60 percent of utility
service interruptions can be blamed on accidental rupture by
excavation. We help eliminate that problem with our
high-visibility, high-durability products for clearly and permanently
identifying the locations of underground electrical cables, gas lines,
fiber-optic cables, and water lines. And Carsonite is 100-percent "811" ready.
For parks, playgrounds, ballfields,
and other recreational facilities, we provide flexible athletic
fencing, signs, and posts — attractive, rustproof, and vandal resistant.
Facilities & Capabilities
Carsonite Composites operates two manufacturing
facilities in South Carolina. The 53,000 square foot Early Branch
facility produces plastic and graphics-related products, and completes
product assembly. The facility employs two plastic extrusion machines
with a combined annual capacity of 5.7 million linear feet. Graphics operations are performed using
semi-automatic screen-printing machines and state-of-the-art, computer-controlled graphic-arts plotters. Our
extensive finishing operations include lamination, direct graphics, drilling, assembly, and a variety of other tasks to make our products
as customer-friendly as possible.
Carsonite's fiberglass operations are centered around our 35,000 square
foot facility in nearby Varnville, South Carolina. The plant houses three 6,000-gallon
resin mixing tanks and 11 pultrusion lines with one to four die cavities each.
There is only one original Carsonite. We originated many of the products we sell, and we make ours better, longer
lasting, and capable of withstanding more abuse - from vehicular impacts, attempted vandalism, even small caliber gunfire and controlled ditch burns. Our products are known in the industry for quality - one of our
competitors has been caught boasting "as good as Carsonite." We achieve that quality by continuously monitoring all of our processes,
and by a rigorous program of testing to make sure our products deliver on our performance promise. You cannot buy better markers. Period.
